எப்போதெல்லாம் அதர்மங்கள் தலைதூக்கி தர்மங்கள் அழிகின்றதோ , அப்போதெல்லாம் பகவான் மஹாவிஷ்ணு அவதாரங்களை எடுத்து அதர்மங்களை அழித்து தர்மத்தை நிலைநாட்டுவார் . அப்படி அவர் எடுத்த அவதாரங்களில் ஒன்றுதான் ஹயக்ரீவர் அவதாரம் . மது – கைடபர் எனும் அரக்கர்களை அழிக்க பகவான் விஷ்ணு எடுத்த அவதாரம் இந்த ஹயக்ரீவர் அவதாரம் .
குதிரை முக தோற்றம் கொண்டவராக இருக்கும் ஹயக்ரீவ மூர்த்தி ஒரு மனிதனுக்கு சிறந்த அறிவு, கல்வி, ஞானம் ஆகியவற்றை தரக்கூடியவர். கல்விக்குரிய தெய்வமாக அனைவராலும் வணப்படுபவள் சரஸ்வதி தேவி.ஆனால் அப்படிப்பட்ட சரஸ்வதி தேவிக்கே குருவாக விளங்கக் கூடியவர் ஹயக்ரீவர் தான் என புராணங்கள் சொல்கின்றன.
அப்படி அவர் கோயில் கொண்டிருக்கும் செட்டிபுண்ணியம் “ஸ்ரீ யோக ஹயக்ரீவர்” பெருமாள் கோயில் பற்றிய சிறப்புகளை இங்கு தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம்.
கிராமத்தின் பழமை மாறாத செட்டிபுண்ணியம் என்ற இந்த சின்ன கிராமத்தில் சுமார் 400 வருடங்கள் பழமை மாறாத பெருமாள் கோயில் உள்ளது . கோயில் சிறியதாக இருந்தாலும் இக்கோயிலின் கீர்த்தி ஆனது மிகவும் பெரியது .
கோயில் அமைப்பு :
சிறிய ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் இக்கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது , உள்ளே நுழைந்தால் , கல்லால் தீப ஸ்தம்பம் மற்றும் பலிபீடம் உள்ளது . வலது புறம் மண்டபம் காணப்படுகிறது . நேரே கோதண்டராமர் சன்னதி மற்றும் தேவநாத ஸ்வாமி மற்றும் ஹயக்ரீவர் உற்சவர் மூர்த்தியாக உள்ள வரதராஜ பெருமாள் சன்னதி உள்ளது . ஆண்டாள் சன்னதியும் உள்ளது .
யோக ஹயக்ரீவர் :
குதிரை முகம் கொண்டு, அபாய கரங்களைக் காட்டியபடி தியான நிலையில் உள்ள ஹயக்ரீவரை, லஷ்மி தேவி மடியில் அமர்ந்திராமல் தனிமையில் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் குதிரை முகம் கொண்ட ஹயக்ரீவரை எந்த ஆலயத்திலும் காண முடியாது. அப்படி அவர் சன்னதி எங்காவது அமைந்து இருந்தால் அது அபூர்வமான ஆலயம் எனலாம். அப்படிப்பட்ட அபூர்வமான ஆலயமாக இந்த செட்டிபுண்ணியம் கோயிலில் ஹயக்ரீவர் அருள்பாளிக்கிறார்.
ஞானத்தை தரும் யோக ஹயக்ரீவர் கடலூருக்கு அருகில் உள்ள திருவஹீந்திரபுரம் ஊரில் தமிழ்நாட்டிலேயே பெரிய கோயிலாக வீற்றியுளார் . இந்த கோயிலிலிருந்து 1848 ஆம் ஆண்டு இக்கோயிலுக்கு தேவநாத பெருமாள், ஹயக்ரீவர் ஆகியவர்களை உற்சவ மூர்த்தியாக எடுத்து வந்து நித்ய ஆராதனத்துடன் 1848-ம் ஆண்டு வைகாசி மாதம் 22-ம் தேதி வெள்ளிக்கிழமை இக்கோயிலில் வைத்தார்கள் . குதிரை முகம் கொண்ட ஹயக்ரீவ மூர்த்தி நான்கு கைகளுடன் சங்கு, சக்கரதாரியாக யோக நிலையில் பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள்பாளிக்கிறார்.
மாணவர்கள் தேர்வு நேரங்களில் இங்கு வந்து நோட்டு, புத்தகம், பென்சில், ரப்பர் உள்ளிட்ட கல்வி உபகரணங்களை புதியதாக வாங்கி பெருமாளின் பாதத்தில் வைத்து பெருமாளுக்கு அர்ச்சனைச் செய்துவிட்டுஅந்தக் கல்வி உபகரணங்களை மாணவ, மாணவிகள் தனது கல்விக்கு பயன்படுத்துவார்கள்.
தஞ்சாவூர் சமஸ்தானத்திலிருந்து ஸ்ரீராமன், சீதை, லஷ்மணன் ஹனுமன் சுவாமிகளை 1863 ஆம் ஆண்டு இக்கோயிலுக்கு கொண்டுவந்து வைத்தார்கள் .
ஆலயத்தின் பின்புறத்தில் உள்ள அங்கோளம் அல்லது அழிஞ்சல் என்ற பெயருடைய தெய்வீக மரத்தில் தமது வேண்டுதலை நிறைவேற்றித் தர பக்தர்கள் தமது ஆடையில் இருந்து இரண்டு நூலை பிய்த்து எடுத்துக் கட்டுகிறார்கள். சிலர் வீடு கட்ட அருள் வேண்டி அந்த மரத்தின் அடியிலேயே கல்லினால் ஆன சின்ன வீடு கட்டுகிறார்கள்.
ஒருவர் வாழ்க்கையில் அவருடைய மேன்மைக்கு சாட்சியாக காணப்படுவது கல்வி ஞானமே. ஆகவேதான் கல்வியும் செல்வமும் பெருக இங்குள்ள யோக ஹயக்ரீவர் ஆலயத்துக்கு வந்து தேவநாத ஸ்வாமி எனும் பெயரில் எழுந்தருளி உள்ள யோக ஹயக்ரீவரை வணங்குகிறார்கள். ஸ்வாமிக்கு ஏலக்காய் மாலை சார்த்தி வணங்கினால் கல்வியில் முன்னேற்றம் கிடைக்கும், ஞாபக சக்தி கூடும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை ஆகும்.
கல்விக்காக வேண்டுபவர்கள் மட்டும் இன்றி இசை, நடனம் போன்ற கலைகளிலும் சிறந்து விளங்குவதற்கும் , தமது தொழிலில் தடைகள் அகலவும் இங்குள்ள ஹயக்ரீவரை வந்து வழிபடுகிறார்கள்.

செல்லும் வழி :
சென்னையில் இருந்து செங்கல்பட்டு செல்லும் வழியில் சிங்கப்பெருமாள் கோயில் தாண்டி சென்றால் மகேந்திர சிட்டி சிக்னல் வரும் அதன் வலது புறம் திரும்பி உள்ளே சுமார் 3 km சென்றால் இக்கோயிலை அடையலாம் .

Sri Yoga Hayagreevar Temple – Chettipunniyam
Whenever adharmas rise up and dharmas are destroyed, Lord Maha Vishnu takes incarnations and destroys adharmas and establishes dharma. Hayagrivar avatar is one of the avatars he took. Hayagrivar is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu to destroy the demons called Madhu-Kaidabar.
Hayagriva Murthy, who has the form of a horse, can give a person great knowledge, education and wisdom. Goddess Saraswati is worshiped by everyone as the goddess of education. But the Puranas say that Hayagriva is the only one who can become a guru for such Goddess Saraswati.

Village’s Immortality In this small village of Chettipunniam, there is a Perumal temple that has remained unchanged for about 400 years. Although the temple is small, the fame of this temple is very big.
Temple Structure:
The temple is flanked by a small rajagopuram, and upon entering, there is a stone lamp pillar and an altar. The hall is seen on the right side. Adjacent is Kothandaram Sannadi and Varadaraja Perumal Sannadi with Devanatha Swamy and Hayagrivar Utsavar Murthy. Andal shrine is also there.
Yoga Hayagrivar:
A horse-faced Hayagriva in a meditative position with arms outstretched, a horse-faced Hayagriva sitting alone in the lap of Goddess Lashmi is not found in any temple. If his shrine is located somewhere then it can be a rare temple. Hayagrivar graces this Chettipunnyam temple as such a rare temple.
Yoga Hayagrivar who gives wisdom resides in Tiruvahindrapuram near Cuddalore as the biggest temple in Tamil Nadu. Devanatha Perumal and Hayagrivar were brought to this temple from this temple in the year 1848 as Utsava Murthy and placed in this temple on Friday 22nd of Vaikasi in 1848 with eternal worship. The horse-faced Hayagriva Murthy with four arms conch and chakradari blesses the devotees in a yogic posture.
Students come here during the exam time and buy new educational equipments like notebooks, books, pencils, rubbers and put them at the feet of Perumal and perform archan to Perumal and then the students will use those educational equipments for their education.
Sriraman, Sita and Lashmanan Hanuman Swami were brought to this temple from Thanjavur principality in 1863.
Devotees tie two threads from their clothes to perform their prayers on the divine tree called Angolam or Azhinjal at the back of the temple. Some people pray for the grace to build a house and build a small stone house under that tree.
Education is the witness of one’s superiority in life. That is why those who are rich in education and wealth come to the Yoga Hayagrivar Temple here and worship the Yoga Hayagriva who is named Devanatha Swamy. It is believed that by worshiping Swami with a cardamom garland, one will improve in education and improve memory.
