English :

We have seen many lingams such as lingam that changes color, lingam with a dragon on its body, lingam in a reclining position, lingam with a scar, and not only that, there are very few temples like Ardhanareeswarar temple and in that we have seen the presence of the Lord in a half-joined state with Umaiyavala. But at this place, when Lord Linga Tirumeni performs thenabhishekam on the linga, the goddess with a parrot in her hand can be seen anywhere else.

It is a very beautiful town with all the facilities that are not too developed in the middle of the city, with beautiful shade trees on both sides without getting caught in the development of the city, roads like a river flowing between them. This temple is located in the middle of the town.

Temple Structure:

The five-tiered Rajagopuram faces east, in front of the tower there is a bull in the small hall, and on the left is the tirtha pond of the dalam. If you go inside the temple, you will see the altar, flagpole and Nandi. On the right hand side there is a Vasantha Mandapam, in which the Yalis are carved very beautifully. There is a round stone in the mouth of a Yali, they carved it very finely to roll inside so that we cannot take it out, don’t forget to see this when you go there.

On the left side is a Vasantha Mandapam with small sculptures and Yali carvings. There is a musical pillar in this hall. Each stone in it expresses a kind of sound that will definitely surprise us.

Now let’s go to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, the temple is organized as sanctum sanctorum, antarala, artha mandapam and maha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is seen with two tiered vimana.

Now let’s see the Lord, He is a Swayambu Lingam, a Swayambu Lingam cut by a spade was found during the Vijayanagara king’s time while digging the soil for farming. He is the one who blesses here in the name of Arthanareeswarar. Even today we can see the incision on the lingam. Here, the Tenabhishekam, which takes place every morning at 11 a.m., is seen with the mother with a parrot in her hand resting on the lingam. For this you have to buy Rs 100 darshanam ticket.

Lord Ardhanareeswarar has blessed Rama who came and worshiped at this place, gave wisdom to Agathiyar, blessed the rishis who performed the puja, and fed Kuga Namachivayar. Let us pray to God to get the grace they have received.

Now let us move around the inner prakara, the sanctum sanctorum consists of Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingotpavar and Durgai. On arrival at Valam we can have darshan of 63 Nayanmars, Agathiswarar with his wife, Nagar, Sandikeswarar, Vishalakshi Udanurai Viswanathar, Nyamalaiyar Udanurai Annamalaiyar, Valli Deivayanai Sametha Muruga, Arthanareeswarar Sudhai idol and Navagraha shrine. Mother Muthambikai is in a separate shrine.

Wedding scene:

When Shiva and Parvati got married in Kailayam, the south direction rose and the north direction fell. To balance this, Shiva suggested Agathiyar to move towards the south direction. According to Lord Shiva, Agathiyar stayed in many places in the south and performed pujas to Lord Shiva. In one such area, while Agathiyar was engaged in puja, Shiva performed a wedding scene. Lord Agathiyar asked that other people should also see this scene and pray, Shiva said that Parvati and I will bless me together when they worship me with honey. That’s why it is said that even today both of them appear together when performing honey anointing to the lingam. The place is known as Rishivantiyam because many rishis visited this place to worship.

Specialty:

Indra, the leader of the gods, used to worship Lord Rishivanthiyam with milk every day. But he did not worship the Goddess Parvati who was there. One day Amman, enraged, hid Indra’s milk jug. When Indra, distraught at not finding the milk pot, tried to save himself by hitting his head on the temple altar, Eason appeared before Indra and asked him to perform the milk ablution for Parvathi. Further, Shiva disappeared saying that Parvati will appear along with my image during this abhishekam. From that day to this day, at the time of Tenabhisheka Puja, Amman and Shiva appear as Ardhanaari Ishvara in Swayambu Lingam with parrots in their hands in half male and half female forms.

The Guru made Namasivaya hungry:

Guka Namachivayar, a disciple of Guru Namachivayar, after visiting many places from Thiruvannamalai and passing through this place to Chidambaram, got hungry. He went to Muthambikai Amman here and sang the song “Thayiruka Pillai Soru”. Immediately the goddess appeared before him and said, “I have received arthabhaka here with Eason. So Kuka Namashivaya also sang the song “Minnamapeshivanda soru va” to say that both of them should sing together. After hearing this song, Muthambikaiyamman brought rice in a golden bowl and said that Kukanamachivaya was hungry.

Inscriptions:

An inscription on a slab in the western verandah of the first prakaram of the temple is dated AD 1269 by Sundara Pandyan I, the gold spreader Perumal Jatavarman. The second inscription is on the west wall of the Maha Mandapam in which Koner’s Mai Kondan was erected by Maravarman III Vikrapandiyan in AD 1283. In it is an inscription that starts with Rajanarayana’s place of duality. The third inscription is on the south wall of the Maha Mandapam, which contains the details of the payment of land, and the fourth inscription is on the upper wall of the Nadu Mandapam, which contains a message about the land.
